Jes Scarlett b. 1995 in Chicago, IL

Currently lives and works in Baltimore, MD.

My work is a devotion to a poetics that is active. The objects I create are devices for looking. I construct network/object/images that want to start and turn over like an engine with an ignition. They are fragile, porous systems, constructed of relationships of shifting contexts and meanings.

Locating the self in relation to the whole feels like an impossible but important task and remaining open to the world while maintaining agency even more urgently so. Pushed by a desire to see, I work towards a forcefully sensitive scrutiny and joy.
